Collaboration and Advocacy
at The Redwood Center
At the Redwood Center for Children and Families we believe that healing happens in connection, not isolation. Our commitment extends beyond the playroom. We stand beside children and families in the wider systems that shape their daily lives, offering both collaboration and advocacy every step of the way.
Partnering with Schools
Children spend much of their lives at school, and the classroom can either nurture or hinder their growth. Our clinicians communicate directly with teachers, administrators, and support staff to ensure that children’s emotional and developmental needs are recognized and supported. We attend school meetings when possible, share insights from play therapy in parent-friendly language, and help schools design environments where children can learn and thrive.
Supporting Families in Systems
Families often feel overwhelmed when navigating IEP meetings, 504 plans, or child welfare hearings. At the Redwood Center, we work with parents so they do not feel alone. We prepare supportive letters that reflect a child’s strengths and challenges, translating therapeutic play themes into language that educators and professionals can understand. By bringing the voice of the child into the process, we help families secure the resources and accommodations their children deserve.
Writing and Speaking for Children’s Rights
Our advocacy continues outside formal systems. We create content for social media and community platforms that educates, uplifts, and challenges harmful narratives. Whether it is sharing research on the impact of trauma, explaining the importance of play, or standing up for children’s right to safety and dignity, our team uses its voice to expand awareness and inspire change.
Rooted in Love, Grown Through Connection
Advocacy is not separate from therapy. It is part of the same mission: helping children feel seen, heard, and supported in every corner of their lives. Just as the redwoods grow tall because their roots are interconnected, children flourish when the adults around them join together in a circle of support.
At the Redwood Center, collaboration and advocacy are not extras. They are essential to protecting children and building communities where all children can grow strong, safe, and free.
