Meet Mary Alice Johnson

Mary Alice is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist who works with children, adolescents, and adults, providing therapy for individuals, couples, and families. She specializes in trauma-informed care and mindfulness through Child-Centered Play Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Emotionally Focused modalities, among others.

About Mary Alice

I hold a Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Touro University. I have received
additional training and mentorship in Emotionally Focused Individual & Couples Therapy, and
Internal Family Systems Therapy with 2 years of experience.

While a trainee, I worked extensively with adolescents and adults in recovery from addiction
both in the inpatient and outpatient setting. In my associateship, I transitioned into working for a
non-profit community mental health organization, and continue to work with a diverse clientele
including children, adolescents, adult individuals, couples and families. Currently, I am pursuing
certification in EMDR and Play Therapy.

I understand counseling as a relational and compassionate space where people can feel deeply
seen and safe to be themselves. I believe healing is not something that can be rushed or forced,
but rather unfolds over time when there is presence, trust, and genuine connection. I hold that
each person carries their own inner wisdom, and that growth emerges through curiosity,
attunement, and the capacity to be with both pain and possibility.

My work is grounded in mindfulness and trauma-informed care, and I tailor my approach to meet
each client where they are. With adults and adolescents, I engage in a collaborative process of
gently exploring and making sense of life’s complexities and how it’s reflected in their internal
experience. With children, I practice non directive, child centered play therapy, following the
child’s lead and trusting in their natural capacity for expression and healing through play. Across
all ages, I draw on the importance of relationships, as well as the influence of family and
community in the healing process.

When we work together, my aim is for therapy to feel steady, warm, and unhurried. I strive to
bring a calm and attentive presence, creating space for you or your child to move at a
comfortable pace without pressure to perform or have things figured out. You can expect to be
met with care and curiosity, especially in moments of difficulty or uncertainty. Over time, this
space can support a sense of relief, greater self-understanding, and the ability to approach life
and your relationships with more ease and confidence.
