Caregiver Consultations
At the Redwood Center for Children and Families, we believe that caregivers are essential
partners in a child’s healing journey. Sometimes what parents and caregivers need most is not
therapy, but clear guidance, education, and support in understanding what their child is
experiencing and how to respond with confidence. That is where psychoeducational consultation comes in.
Understanding Play and Behavior
In consultation we help caregivers make sense of their child’s play, emotions, and behaviors. Weexplain how trauma, stress, or developmental challenges may show up at home or school andshare strategies that honor both the child’s needs and the caregiver’s capacity. These sessions are practical and focused on equipping adults with child centered tools they can use right away.
Learning New Approaches
We teach caregivers core Child Centered Play Therapy principles such as reflection, tracking, and limit setting. These skills translate into everyday life — whether that is during mealtime struggles, bedtime routines, or moments of conflict. Caregivers leave with language, activities, and approaches that foster connection and reduce power struggles.
A Circle of Support
Caregiver consultation is not therapy. It is an educational space where adults can ask questions, learn new skills, and feel encouraged in their parenting role. Just as redwoods grow strong because their roots are interconnected, children thrive when caregivers feel supported, informed, and empowered. At the Redwood Center, caregiver psychoeducational consultation provides families with knowledge, strategies, and encouragement to create safe, nurturing environments where children can grow.
