Professional Consultations

Why Choose Consultation?

At the Redwood Center for Children and Families we know that play therapists carry big
questions and big hearts into the playroom. Consultation gives you a space to pause, reflect, and
strengthen your skills so you can meet children with clarity, confidence, and compassion.

Making Sense of Play Themes

In consultation we explore the meaning behind children’s play. Together we look at themes of
aggression, nurturing, mastery, and trauma, and talk through how to reflect, track, and set limits
in ways that honor the child’s process. We translate play into parent-friendly language, so you
feel equipped to bridge what happens in the playroom with the conversations that happen outside
of it.

Support for Complex Cases

Many of the children we serve have lived through abuse, loss, or systemic challenges. We help
you think through how to stay grounded while supporting children who bring intense play
themes, disclosures, or family conflict. Consultation can also include guidance on letters, school
meetings, or advocacy efforts connected to your play therapy work.

Growing Together

Consultation is not just problem solving. It is a circle of support for therapists who want to
deepen their attunement, strengthen their skills, and stay rooted in non-directive Play Therapy
values. Just as redwoods grow strong through their interconnected roots, play therapists grow
when they are connected to a community that understands the unique challenges of this work.
At the Redwood Center, play therapy consultation is more than supervision. It is a partnership
that helps you stay confident, creative, and centered as you do the life-changing work of play.
